Complications Of Shingles

Most often shingles heal well and within a short time without causing any complication. However, in some cases the blisters get infected due to second bacterial infection. Complications start at such infections which cause cellulites. On such occasions the infected area becomes red, firm, tender and warm.

If you notice any red streaks around your blisters or rashes, contact your doctor immediately. Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN) is a common complication fiberglass roof shingles which occurs in people with weak immune system. In such case of complications the pain lasts for months and even years in rare cases.

The PHN occurs due to damage of nerve fibers. Another common complication of shingles is called Hutchinson's Sign, when blisters appear at the tip of your nose and may cause painful swelling over the eyes.
