Student Loan Cancellation and Course load
When you apply for financial aid, you will need to indicate whether or not you plan to attend college full time or part time. Typically, you will need to take a minimum of 12 credits for full time status, and 6 credits for part time enrollment. While you can change your mind at a later date, you will still need to keep in mind the effect on your student loans throughout the semester.
Consider a situation where you are only taking 2 classes, or 6 credits. If you are having problems with a course, you may decide it is best to withdraw. Unfortunately, this may mean you have to take more classes the next semester, or risk losing some of your financial aid (student loan cancellation).
