Although it is not necessary to have a degree to become a dental assistant, some states may require that you clear a written or practical examination and obtain a license in order to get registered as a dental assistant. In instances where you are involved in specialized work like Radiological procedures in the course of your professional duties, you may need to clear an examination in Radiation Health and Safety that is offered by the DANB (Dental Assisting National Board).
