Computer Equipment Recycling
There are a number of options available when it comes to computer equipment recycling. These include dumping in landfill, donation, refurbishing/reselling, continuing to store the equipment, exporting the components overseas, and destruction. Destruction of old computers provides the highest degree of certainty that companies are protecting their data and maintaining compliance with new federal privacy laws. This option also happens to be the most environmentally responsible. “Destruction” of obsolete computing equipment is defined as destroying the systems and then sorting materials by type, which are then reprocessed for re-use by industry. A true disposal method means that nothing, i.e. no part of the obsolete computer, ever ends up in landfill.
