Facts about book publishing

Monday, February 11th, 2008

Currently there are three main ways of getting a book published - contacting one of the big publishers, like Random House and Penguin; using the services of a smaller, independent book publisher; or option number three - self book publishing. But perhaps the question that all authors want to know the answer to is 'Where does the money from the sale go?' Well, it depends on the publishing method you choose and the contract signed. Typically, the publisher gets the big cut, while writers are left with the crumbs. Writers usually get about 5-7% of every sale made. My advice to you is that if you are a first timer, go for an independent publisher.
